What is this?
Speaker: Jerry Browning
Topic: Active Listening
CEU: 1.0 Core Competency
4:15 pm - 4:30 pm - DOORS OPEN
4:30 pm - 6:00 pm - MEETING
Jerry will explore 3 ways that listening can unlock more power in your coaching conversations and also help with assessing.
1. Assessing in coaching? Establishing why assessing is important for the coach and the client in coaching and how our listening as coach is vital. We will discuss how creating a diverse selection of things to listen for helps identify what to work on in the coaching.
2. Logical Levels as construct: We will briefly explore Robert Dilts’ model of Logical Levels to help us build a schema to use in our coaching conversations. This hierarchy is a good framework to help categories the areas of where our coaching might focus and which of the areas are the highest need for the client.
3. Counterstory management: Something that can block your coaching is your ‘Counterstory,’ a phenomenon from Dr. John Savage’s work. We will discuss how to managing your ‘Counterstory’ so that you notice and managing your own emotions that are triggered by coaching conversations. The goal is to help you listen more deeply for understanding and assessing without having to tell your whole story.
